Visiting the local liquor store!
Today we went to our neighborhood liquor store to do research on some of our upcoming episodes and found a young lady handing out samples of Jameson's limited edition IPA whiskey. Our first taste of the IPA style whiskey was, shall we say, somewhat shocking. The flavor was not what we expected and for over $30 not to our liking. A somewhat bitter, fruity flavor, it just didn't give that Jamison warmth that you normally get. We talked about giving it a try in an upcoming episode and decided that we would pass. The thought of a Bourbon, whiskey IPA just doesn't seem normal to us. We may change our mind down the line, and review some IPA's but for now we pass. We are interested in what you think? The Independent recently did an article on its 13 best bourbons. What do you think of their list? Although I have not sampled all that are on the list I can say that I have had most. And of their list I would have to put the Woodford Reserve and the Makers Mark near the top. However I feel that they are leaving out some of the better craft bourbons that are not as common (their list should be the 13 top common bourbons). There are so many small single sample distilleries around, especially in Texas where small distilleries are popping up all around. Also it missed so many really good fine bourbons from bourbon country itself. Kentucky just swims in good bourbon. For my list I would defiantly have added Evan Williams Single Barrel Reserve. Makers Mark, and Woodford reserve, but also Heaven Hill and Knob Creek, but also Garrison Brothers and Andalusia (technically a whiskey). Rating System for our episodes.
We have developed this rating system for our sampling of our bourbons, whiskeys and scotches. It's a work in progress but we felt that we needed some sort of system to use in how we will compare the different bourbons. Please, help us out in refining this so leave a comment below for any suggestions. Thanks!
